Nick Healey presented: You Can’t Always Get What You Want: Managing the Flow of Information During Credentialing, on May 4, 2012, at the inaugural meeting of the Wyoming Association of Medical Staff Services (WyAMSS) at Sheridan Memorial Hospital. The event was attended by medical staff professionals representing approximately 14 Wyoming hospitals, and Nick’s presentation discussed Wyoming and federal legal requirements and prohibitions on disclosing information during the medical staff credentialing and privileging process.

The article addresses Wyoming’s Medical Volunteer Immunity Law, which provides liability protections for volunteer physicians, how it can be used to assist physicians providing care to low income uninsured patients, and how to avoid pitfalls in using the law. Tim Woznick’s article, “Proceed With Caution!” was recently published in the February 2012 Wyoming Lawyer publication. The article addresses the Service Members Civil Relief Act. The article describes the protections provided members of the armed services faced with civil litigation (such as collections actions), and highlights how to comply with the Act and common ways it is inadvertently violated.
